There are countries that have created a very special relationship with electronic music. Romania is one of those countries. For decades it has created its own style and has given birth to a large number of artists of enormous talent. One of those sons of the Romanian scene is Arapu, a DJ who continues the tradition of his predecessors of giving us unforgettable musical moments.
At Pyramid we have a magical link to the Romanian scene. We have admired them for many years since, since their arrival in Ibiza, they revolutionized the island with a fresh and carefree attitude. Arapu exemplifies this way of being, his own philosophy that is based on the deconstruction of techno to its minimum essence.
Born in Slatina, Ionut Arapu had his first contact with electronic music at the age of 14 at the DelahoyaFestival in Cluj Napoca. At the age of 15, his passion for music as a DJ became a reality in his own town, where he used to throw breakbeat and drum and bass parties for clubbers who liked those genres. From 2004 he did his first big parties at Timisoara-Ink Club, at Petrosani-Eden Club, at Cluj-Cotton Club and Craiova-Pulp. He also has his own parties at Phoenix and Keops Club (Petrosani), Club Jam (Pitesti), The Vibes Club (Slatina) La and many others.
In 2005 he settles in Bucharest and starts working in various famous clubs and begins his transition to the house and techno genres. During this period he performed in famous clubs like: Other Side of Expirat, Silver, Daimon Lounge, Gossip, Youtopia, Barocco, Vanity, Vibes, Club Sin, Kings, Backstage, La Blanca, GuestHouse and more.
His success is measured in the pleasure he finds in making music, a feeling that he may start in the club, but never seems to end there. Together with the field recordings and the thunder of his basses, Arapu’s discography reaches a greater range of emotions. It’s hard not to notice that his records hide a special trait: the ability to amplify any form of good humor. As a natural consequence, in 2015 he launched his own label: Liniar.
At Pyramid we love Arapu because he is a true master of the turntables, the electronic spaces that Arapu creates are characterized by a direct style and his own seductive game. The captivating bass lines and driving synths are nothing but the best fertilizer for his signature sound, carefully mixed at just the right bpm to whet the crowd’s ravenous dance hunger.
